Naturopathic treatment of arthritis

This Friday, September 28 from 2-3pm at the Alta Vista Public Library (2516 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, K1V 7T1) I’ll be giving a talk about naturopathic treatments for arthritis!

Arthritis basically means inflammation of the joints.  Joints are commonly inflamed due to trauma, overuse and autoimmune conditions.

During this seminar we will discuss the following naturopathic treatment goals for dealing with arthritis pain:

1.  Decrease inflammation and therefore relieve the acute pain

2. Treat the underlying cause of arthritis to prevent the pain from returning

3. Support optimal  joint health through nutrition

Nutrition is one of the foundations of health and can play a role in how much inflammation and therefore pain someone with arthritis feels.

Here’s a list of pro-inflammatory foods to avoid:

Red meat, sugar, alcohol, coffee, soft drinks, processed/packaged meals, dairy products, gluten-containing grains, nightshade vegetables (eggplant, pepper, potato, tomato), and any other identified food sensitivities.

Here’s a list of anti-inflammatory foods to eat more of:

Fish, nuts and seeds, colourful fruits and vegetables foods rich in anti-oxidants and vitamins A, C, E, D, and minerals selenium and zinc.
Check out my post: Prevent the cold and flu with these 3 supervitamins for foods high in vitamins A, C and E!
