3 foods that fight breast cancer

The important role nutrition plays in the prevention of breast cancer is well known.  Many foods have been made popular for their ability to prevent and fight breast cancer such as flaxseed, soy, Goji berries, shiitake mushrooms, broccoli and turmeric.

Here are 3 foods you probably didn’t know fight cancer:

Garlic has sulphur containing molecules that specifically increase liver detoxification.  Liver detoxification is important for clearing out harmful chemicals and regulating your body’s estrogen balance, two key factors in the development of breast cancer.  Garlic is high in the mineral selenium, a potent anti-oxidant which protects cells from damage.

Watercress can cause cell death in breast cancer cells as well as inhibit their spread because it is high in a molecule called sulforaphane.  Sulforaphane slows the rate of reproduction in breast cancer stem cells and increases the production of tumor suppressor proteins in the immune system.  Sulforaphane is also highly concentrated in cruciferous vegetables such as  broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, kale, mustard greens, bok choy, Chinese broccoli, radish and arugala.

Pomegranate contains acid molecules such as ellagic acid and ursolic acid which have been shown to cause cell death and inhibit the spread of breast cancer cells by limiting their blood supply. Pomegranate seed oil is particularly effective for inhibiting breast cancer cells so be sure to chew those pomegranate seeds thoroughly!
