It is important to keep in mind that a short-term detoxification program can make you feel great but if you do not reduce your external toxin exposure and make sustainable and healthy changes to your lifestyle habits, the positive effects of a short-term detoxification program will not last.

Here are 10 simple ways to support detoxification on a daily basis:

  1. Decrease your toxic burden at home and work by avoiding harsh chemicals commonly found in household cleaners and laundry detergents.
  2. Decrease your toxic burden in your diet by avoiding excessive alcohol, coffee, soft drinks, red meat, processed and pre-packaged foods, fried foods, artificial colours and flavourings, and chemical preservatives.
  3. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day.
  4. Eat a whole foods diet consisting of 8-10 servings of fruit and vegetables per day, whole grains and lean meat. Try to eat organic and free-range if possible.
  5. Increase your fibre consumption by choosing whole grains, snacking on nuts and seeds or adding ground flaxseed to your meals.
  6. Drink tea in place of coffee. Green tea is full of anti-oxidants. Ginger, peppermint and chamomile support a healthy digestive tract. Dandelion and nettle support the function of the liver and kidneys.
  7. Exercise regularly aiming for at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise 5 times per week.
  8. Choose a form of hydrotherapy to assist in detoxification such as a contrast shower, castor oil pack or regular sauna treatments.
  9. Find a relaxation technique to help you breathe deeper and more effectively like meditation, yoga or pilates.
  10. Get at least 8 hours of restful, uninterrupted sleep per night to help your body restore itself and feel rejuvenated.
