It’s the one year anniversary of my blog!

Happy New Year!

Last year my new year’s resolution was to start a naturopathic health and wellness blog.  Like all new year’s resolutions, you start off highly motivated to reach your goals and at times your motivation can fluctuate.

After reading up on successful blogging tips, it became clear that a successful blogger is one who posts consistently, who posts valuable content, and who can continue posting past the one year mark (which means if you have stuck with it this long you are likely to continue).

Hence the purpose of this post celebrating the one year anniversary of my blog!

First, I’d like to thank everyone for reading the blog, liking my posts, as well as sharing them with others on facebook, twitter and through e-mail.  If you would like to receive an update every time I post something new just click the ‘Sign me up!’ button in the top right corner of this page.  Please let me know if there are any health topics you would specifically like to read about in the next year. Feel free to ask me questions as well, usually commonly asked or interesting questions end up inspiring my posts.

Second, WordPress kindly summarizes your blog’s success each year and I wanted to share some of the statistics with you from my 2011 year in blogging report:

“The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 11,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.”

Thanks WordPress for the awesome comparison!

“In 2011, there were 35 new posts, not bad for the first year! There were 71 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 38mb. That’s about a picture per week.” My goal was to blog every 1-2 weeks so 35/52 seems ok to me!

“The busiest day of the year was November 30th with 221 views. The most popular post that day was Using the therapeutic properties of water to manage your child’s fever.” November is the time of year for colds and flus but I probably got some help from the Ottawa Mommy Club who shared this post on their website and tweeted to their followers.

The top sites referring to my blog were my personal website, facebook, twitter and linked in.  I guess that’s the point of networking your sites and social media!

These were the top 5 most popular posts the past year:

1. Using the therapeutic properties of water to manage your child’s fever

2. Rubber ducks, shampoo and bubble tea oh my! What harmful chemical do these 3 have in common?

3. Are you tired ALL the time? This may be why…

4. 3 things you didn’t know about dandelions

5. What is the difference between a naturopath and a homeopath?

Thanks again for reading my blog! I look forward to another year of sharing my thoughts with you on the evolving field of natural medicine!
